Committed to Safeguarding Galveston County's Environment and Communities

In 1908, the citizens of Galveston County recognized the need for proper drainage and flood control measures to protect and preserve their lands. A collective vote led to the establishment of the Galveston County Drainage District #1 under the provisions of Section 59 of Article XVI of the Texas Constitution. Since then, we have been dedicated to the reclamation and drainage of overflowed lands and other lands needing drainage across the county.

Our mission is to provide effective and efficient drainage solutions that safeguard the environment, promote sustainable development, and protect the communities in District No. 1. We strive to continuously improve our services, maintain strong relationships with residence, and uphold transparency in our operations.
